Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 39 - Whey To Go

Did some reading yesterday, been doing a lot of reading since taking off on this health mission. In a short period of time I came across three articles all of which mentioned their use of Whey Protein Powder. My initial reaction, "What the #*@% is Whey?" Being in a mirthful mood my mind fixated on the word Whey a bit & triggered old memories of Wayne's World where Garth would say "No way," and Wayne would reply "Way!" It is safe to say that this comedic-duo certainly was not debating the prospect of enjoying some Whey Protein Powder with their lunch.

There were a few common nuggets of info from these authors. Whey is an animal protein that is known for it's muscle building properties and therefore it is commonly added to shakes by body builders. Now I am not angling to being a body builder as anyone here that follows my blog likely knows. I am just trying to lose weight and get healthy again. Once I achieve that, who knows what I'll do with my new and improved me. But I know some of you do a bit of body building in your routines so I thought I would ask...

Whey Protein Powder, does anyone use it and what benefits are you gaining?

Final nuggets are that it is low in calories & high in protein. One author also said it may help prevent prostate cancer too; a bonus no doubt. All sounds good but I hope there are added benefits to justify having it in the house.

My cats seem to have caught the attention of some of you. Here is another picture, this one is Crush who you've met before. The kid, well that is Cameron, our youngest. Crush has an odd habit in that he likes to lick your hair when it is wet. Cameron just sat down after a shower, and Crush hopped up and started licking. Strange to be sure...

Quickly, ate very well yesterday and did an intense session with my dumbbells. Felt awesome! Today we'll be looking for some cardio.

OK, let me end this day's blog post with a favorite quote from Wayne's World; "I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored." - Wayne Campbell

Party on Bloggers ;-)

Responsibility 199... Gotta Do It!!

  1. I think animals is odd. One of my dogs licks paint of the walls - only in one spot mind, she is picky that way. The other can be seen three times a week licking the kitchen floor to death...it coincides with floor washing - I blame the floor cleaner lol.

  2. I have used whey protein powders to make shakes to drink after working out. I have yet to find one that doesn't have an unpleasant aftertaste. Also, they tend to be rather expensive and are LOADED with either sugar or sugar substitutes. Guess you can say I'm not a fan. My teenage son will sometimes drink a protein shake to, of all things, help him gain weight. It was suggested to him that he get more protein in his diet-he's 140 lbs and is 5'11"!

  3. I am a fan of whey protein powder.

    My uses are:
    1. 1/2 scoop chocolate in coffee (don't do this to often)
    2. 1/2 scoop vanilla in hot tea (do this at work most mornings, at night prefer 1% milk in my tea)
    3. use 3 scoops chocolate in my homemade protein bars every week
    4. make myself a protein shake (crushed ice, 1 scoop, 1 cup 1% milk) before going to the gym otherwise I get low blood sugar. I prefer a shake to eating because then my stomach doesn't feel so bloated.

I have also made shakes thick like soft ice cream and put peanut butter, bananas or other frozen fruit for the kids.

I prefer Optimum nutrition 100% whey gold standard brand, it tastes the best to me.

My suggestion is buy the smallest quantity you can to give it a try if you want and if you hate it or it just sits around then it's not for you. I don't think a person needs this in their diet. I started using it because of the low blood sugar attacks then started making my own protein bars.

Cute cat picture. Yea animals can be weird lol. Our one cat use to love licking artificial flowers lol.

  4. OMG, so much to say on this subject! There are cleaner & faster working types than others that are all whey like isolates & then there are slower digesting ones that are a whey/casein mix. I have an older post on this. I will try to find it & e you the link.

I use different types & flavors.. mix them in things, make smoothies, make homemade protein bars & more! Really versatile!

Ya have to read the ingredients & nutritionals of each one to see what the make up is...

  5. The oldest of my three boys is named Cameron!

I have used whey protein powder from time to time. I like it because you can make yummy fruit shakes with it, and it keeps you full for a long time. But I get tired of it very quickly, and I prefer "real" food.

  6. Blue, I don't think I have ever met a cat that wasn't odd in some way.

Karen, I will watch for that aftertaste should I try this. Not a big fan of aftertastes that linger on.

Dawn, in coffee or tea huh, I wouldn't have thought of that. the authors of these articles didn't mention using it that way. Good idea, buy small amount if I try before knowing I'll like it or not.

Jody, Thanks for the link to your blog post on the topic, I am going to go read that now. You seem to have a lot of technical knowledge of this product so I look forward to that read.

Carla, so we've share Cameron's huh, small world moment:-) Our other two sons are Andrew & Ryan, please tell me your other two are not named Andrew & Ryan.
