Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 412-415: Monday is Back

Monday is a great day, although most people disregard it as be even good. It has to be a great day. If it weren't, why were so many songs written about Monday?

There is Manic Monday via the Bangles. Are you wishing it were still Sunday, your funday? I had a great Sunday. Family party at the house for the graduates. Good times, good food (too much of it), definitely a funday. Sure, I can see wanting to wish it were Sunday again.

There is Jimmy Buffet's Come Monday. Monday gets some love from Jimmy, he tells us that come Monday it'll be all right. He also goes on to say he will hold us tight; I can do without that literally, but certainly I get it that some emerge from a weekend less than sure about the week ahead and could use a hug to get going.

There is Monday, Monday by the Mommas & Papas. Whew, they hated Monday, flat out said can't trust that day. But they also said it's here to stay.

Monday, yes it comes right after what are usually the two funnest days of the week.
Monday, yes no matter what you did this weekend you may regret; e.g. ate too much, went streaking while waving a Nascar flag, told your neighbor his wife needs to shave... I regret one of those today. No matter what it was you may regret today, Monday, don't blame it on Monday.
Monday, most definitely is here to stay. When we stop having Monday come around every seven days, probably means one of the previous seven days went terminally bad for us.

Be happy that Monday is back. Today, you get to enjoy the memories of a great weekend while getting busy on creating new memories. Monday is the perfect day to grab any regrets you have by the collar and make them right. And Monday, while it gets no respect even though it is here to stay, you deserve to embrace your self-respect this Monday and get after what it is you want.

What is it that you want this Monday?

Day 400-401: Hock-A-Post

source
Time is so short this morning that I am going to have to hock up a quick post and put it out there. Hope it sticks and is worth your time today...

Great workout on Saturday. Hit the YMCA, mangled the weight room, tortured the elliptical. And I hit the assisted-chin/dip machine. Man that machine wore me out. Which is just why I am going back for more tonight.

School, this the final week of high school for 3 of our 4 high school'ers. This coming Saturday the Senior graduates; just less than three months and she is off to college. A year'ish from now our Junior graduates..., two from now the Sophomore..., three from now the Freshman. Five from now were are flat broke and selling plasma so we can eat off of the dollar menu.

Nachos, I can safely report that I ate no nachos this weekend. Although we do have a cat named Nacho, and I did pet him, so call me guilty!

Saw a snipet of a tv show this weekend where the menu included chocolate covered bacon, If ever I was to get married again it would be to a piece of chocolate covered bacon.

If I could read your mind, what would I be reading right now?

My wife got herself a heck of a sunburn yesterday while we were watching our son play soccer. And he lost 6-1, doesn't seem right mom goes out there, gets burned while watching his team get burned. Should be a sunburn back guarantee with the price of admission.

My stomach just growled, I am ignoring it. Probably just my heart moving stuff around for the additional fortitude I'll be moving in. Ah, growled again; better hurry up and get that fortitude!

I followed many tweets about FitBloggin'11 which took place this past weekend. Sounds like a great time, need to give that consideration for next year. That link there goes to the sites page of links to posts from those who attended and reviewed their experience. Some great reading there.

Ok, that is what I have to share today.
What about you, what can you hock-up and share with me from your weekend?

I'll resume the leadership traits tomorrow...

Have a Great Monday!

Day 262 - Thinking A Bit Deeper

Do you Tweet? If so, connect with me there; I am Rspnsblty199 and love it for quick in & out health chat from my blackberry, itouch, etc. through out the day whenever hitting the blogs is not in the cards.

Monday! So happy it is Monday, the holiday break is over and days that include work are here again. Uh Huh I am, probably not a notion shared by many, but I am at my best when it comes to ME when not in holiday mode.

This is day-three of the new year, not that I am really counting. But I'll use the neatness of the new calendar for a mini-reflection of my most recent healthy living performance...

Saturday Jan 1, Consuming 1,900+ calories is more than I should consume when leading my life in a healthy manner. Even on days where I bust out some meaningful exercise 1,900+ is not likely to result in a day of weight loss. I performed no exercise this day however. I'd like to keep it closer to a range between 1,500 & 1,800 daily. Looking at the nutrient breakdown my days intake was 50% carbs and 25% each fat & protein. Ideally I will cut the carbs in half and replace those calories primarily with lean proteins.

Sunday Jan 2, I did exercise today giving the elliptical a furious thrashing after finally fixing the thing. Ok, it thrashed me; I just didn't feel like walking out in the cold today. A better eating day than yesterday... At 1,800 calories and carbs closer to 40%, just a bit better not allot. We'll take it though and onward we go to the next day where the opportunity exists to be even better.

Monday Jan 3, TBD...

Yesterday I received many great comments on my weigh-in post; Thank You all who chimed in with encouraging words and thoughts. I would like to give a shout out to contributor who set my mind to thinking a bit deeper about all of this than I was.

Christine played this role of mentor for me this day and if you did not read her comments then today is your lucky day as I am copy/pasting them here for you to ponder too...

Okay Patrick. Remember the weight loss fundamentals that I think maybe you lost track of:
1.) Exercise does not equal weight loss. You can't exercise your way down the scale. Exercise is good and you should keep doing it, but it won't make you skinny.
2.) Watch your "empty carbs." If you are going to eat carbs, make sure they are from a real plant, such as a baked potato. Bread is not a plant.
3.) Watch your sugar intake.
4.) Eat lots of protein. If you get hungry, EAT! But eat protein.
5.) Don't shy away from "healthy fats" like nuts, avocado, fish, cheese. Just eat them in small portions (after all, they are high in calories). Just supplement these items with high-protein foods.
6.) EAT! Don't starve yourself because the scale is being mean to you. Eat regularly, just eat small meals.
I know that sounds like a lot, but it's all basic, fundamental stuff that you already know. Just re-evaluate what you're doing and get back on track! You can do this!!

All good stuff there, all I've heard before and agree with; Thanks Christine! I admit to not always keeping the basics in the forefront of my mind and adhering to them, obviously I have not over the holidays.

Hmm, what would happen if I did? I KNOW, I would get to create a post like THIS ONE and share it with all of you!

If you didn't 'watch' that post I linked in the last paragraph you are doing yourself an injustice; please watch it. And when you have and come back here and tell me...
Where are the basics at in your mind today?

Day 65 - Back To It

Welcome to Monday. Yeah, that means the weekend is done.

Feeling relaxed & ready for a new week?

I can not answer YES to that question myself. I believe it comes with the territory that when you have a busy weekend, especially one away from home, that you don't really relax. As if we need a weekend after our weekend to actually relax before starting a new work week. Yeah, that's it; can we get legislation to make that happen?

We had a fantastic weekend at the wedding and getting away from the everyday. There you see my wife sleeping there as I drive home, a bit too much rum the night before for her. Me, well you see I am just trying to drive & blow a bubble at he same time. Please, please do not try this at home; I am an under-paid professional.

Rested, relaxed or not, today is Monday. That means back to work. Back to parenting. Back to getting healthy in earnest. Forecast calls for allot of rainy and stormy days ahead here, so what I say! I have an elliptical and a treadmill and unless someone moved my gym and dumbbells onto the patio those are inside too. So I have zero, zip, ziltch excuses for getting my healthy on.

How about you, ready for this newest week of being healthy?
