Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 280 - You Can Quote Me, It Is COLD

Yep, I am sure it is cold where you are too. Well, a few of you live in Florida or Hawaii or in the Southern Hemi I know; but a majority of us have awaken to a cold frigid friggin morning. As you can see from the pic of my vehicles temp, -9F is what I was greeted to when I left the house at 6 a.m. today.

Ok, so it is cold. We have to work with what we got so lets enjoy some famous, or infamous, tidbits about COLD...

“I like these cold, gray winter days. Days like these let you savor a bad mood.” -Bill Watterson (author of Calvin and Hobbes)
My take; the stack of Calvin and Hobbes books in my son's room is a certain give way of his love of that comic strip. As far as bad moods, I see no use in them and try to avoid them as much as possible. Thus, I am forgivable to a fault.

“It doesn't matter if the water is cold or warm if you're going to have to wade through it anyway” -Teilhard de Chardin (a French philosopher)
My take; sure much like a mission to get healthy no matter what your attitude is about the work that lay ahead, cold or warm, you have got to wade into it if it is going to get done.

“I will have naught to do with a man who can blow hot and cold with the same breath” -Aesop (Ancient Greek story-teller)
My take; Whatever

“He receives comfort like cold porridge.” -William Shakespeare
My take; Huh, what do you know, Shakespeare knew my father.

“Three feet of ice does not result from one day of cold weather.” -Chinese Proverb
My take; Yep, three layers of blubber did not form on my carcass from one day of bad eating.

Alright, I think that is enough. So it is cold. Not going to let it get me down. It is warm in the office and yes I am grateful I do not work outside for a living, I will eat hot food and skip the salad bar this day, I will be healthy indoors as it really isn't hard, and I can't wait for the Bears game on Sunday; GO BEARS!
That is me this a.m. at work, we were granted the OK to wear the jersey of the team we support today; otherwise it is business casual everyday here. Being so close to the IL/WI border there will be a fair amount of folks wearing Green Bay Packer jerseys today; punks! Also a few Steeler jerseys as for some odd reason there is a number of exiled Steeler fans in this community, even a bar not far from here that is all things Steelers. I'll be shocked if I see a Jets jersey (sorry Kelly)... as I said GO BEARS!

So how cold is it where you are today and are you letting it get you down?

  2. I live in MS, and it's unusually cold here today too, but I'm loving it, since we normally have summer nine months out of the year. Love the jersey! :)

  3. Brr here too. Little snow coming. More this weekend. Double brr.

  4. It's supposed to get colder tonight with snow coming all this weekend. But I'm heading to New Orleans so I'll be warm! Sounds like you're in for a soup and (half?) a grilled cheese today. Have a great weekend Patrick

  5. It was 5 degrees on my drive to work today, but I don't let it get me down. Cold weather means warm soup for dinner and more snuggles with my babies under big comfy blankets.

  6. Your car shows negative numbers? Little Californian me thinks that's quite neat. I'm such a whimp, that makes me cold to read.

Go Jets! :-) (since we don't have an NFL team in these parts, I root for my former Trojans) I've jumped on the Mark Sanchez bandwagon.

  7. It is cold here too but I'm snuggled down with my laptop, dressed in my thermals and trying to stay warm. We have about half an inch of snow on the ground but there is a layer of ice underneath that. I think I may turn the thermostat up a notch today.

  8. This is one of my favorite poems (about cold and fatherly love):

    "Those Winter Sundays"
    BY ROBERT HAYDEN

Sundays too my father got up early
and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold,
then with cracked hands that ached
from labor in the weekday weather made
banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him.

I’d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking.
When the rooms were warm, he’d call,
and slowly I would rise and dress,
fearing the chronic angers of that house,

    Speaking indifferently to him,
who had driven out the cold
and polished my good shoes as well.
What did I know, what did I know
of love’s austere and lonely offices?

  9. It's so cold here that my black lab takes 2 steps off the porch, pees, then barks to come back inside.

A nice weekend to stay inside by the fire and watch football. GO BEARS!

  10. Good luck with the Bears on Sunday. If they end up against Pittsburgh in the SB, I'll be on your side.

  11. Brrrr, sounds cold. That's kind of fun wearing your football jerseys. We'd have to wear our hockey jerseys here. Football isn't big (sorry, I said that out loud).

Enjoy your weekend, Patrick. You are sure looking good ... a smaller version of yourself.

  12. Love your blog! Such wit while being incredibly thought-provoking!

As for the cold...I love it. So cold actually makes me happy!

Course, I live in Texas. And "cold" is 33 degrees on the way to work this morning... :)

  13. Cold cold cold. That windy city has to be right around the same temp as Motown where I am... I am sure glad it is FRIDAY!!! Yes Go Bears but I have a personal story to tell with Charles Woodson as well as him graduating from the University of Michigan - so I would like to see Green Bay win but will pull for the NFC in the superbowl no matter what.

  14. Yep. Cold even here in TX. It was 28 this am. For you, a heat wave, right? I have to agree, Go Bears. Also, I love Calvin. And Hobbes. I totally identify with that quote. Chuckle.

  20. It's brrr cold here today, tonight is supposed to be brutal.

  21. It's in the upper 40's here today. I'm not complaining!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have to say, I love the attitude! Thanks for following me too!

here it was 67 degrees today, but it was also very rainy, a perfect curl up on the couch and watch sappy movies type of day. Unfortunately work didn't agree!

Lastly, I just wanted to say, Steelers SUCK!!! (Sorry, I'm from Ohio, and I'm obligated to detest them!)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not very cold. Gray and raining. Our weather would probably make you cranky!! Does me. Supposed to be warmer and dry tomorrow. Typical Oregon!

    Keep focused!

  24. -35* when I got up this morning. Then no electricity for 2 1/2 hours (we had it, have a genarator), tonight it's -2*. Much warmer, almost sweatshirt weather. No kidding, once it's zero or above I don't put on winter coat on, just a sweatshirt.
Have a great weekend. Take care and God Bless!!!
