Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 261 - 53% Progress

In a word, STUCK, is how I shall summarize my holidays. Stuck as far as weight loss overall. I didn't weigh myself as frequently over the last month-and-a-half, although when I did my weight continued creeping down at times, or didn't move at others. Yet, when I weighed in today I came in up a few pounds to see 255.5 pounds on the scale, a mark I weighed in at in mid-November.

While I knew I dipped into a few more holiday / new years eve treats than I should have, I didn't expect that result. Thinking back, I should have expected exactly that. Even though I was getting in some exercise, it wasn't as determined an effort as I was putting in last spring, summer & fall. Simple math right? Take in more calories than you burn off will result in weight gain 100% of the time.

The positive mind within me finds victory in this weigh-in however. Over the past month-and-a-half which covered the holidays I was STUCK. I didn't pack on 10-15 pounds of holiday cookie wight which I've done many a year. I didn't sit idle on my butt giving zero consideration to exercise which I've done many a year. So compared to those many other years the 2010 holiday eating season was victorious.

My aim remains to weigh 199 pounds or less in life, and that will happen in 2011.
My intent remains to lose 1.5 pounds a week, assuming I do just that I'll reach 199 by the end of September.
My stretch aim would be to weigh 199 by the end of June when we depart for a Hawaiian vacation.
My intent needs to amp up to lose 2.25  pounds a week for that to happen.

In 2010 I came to know some important and cool abilities which I possess:
I know how to lose 1.5 pounds a week...
I know how to eat healthy...
I know how to exercise with purpose...
I know 2011 is going to be another great year, just as 2010 was.

  2. Love what you now know:) And, yes, kudos for maintaining during a time of the year when the average person GAINS. Hawaii! Jealous. Which island(s)? Been before?

  3. Compared to holidays past, I'd say you weren't stuck at all. 2010 seemed to represent an improvement - a significant improvement - over previous seasons. Keep doing what you're doing and you will see 199 before you know it. Maybe purchasing a speedo for the vacation will provide incentive to increase the loss to 2.25? Just kidding!

  4. The thought process is there Patrick. I think we have to generally fight a little harder at this time of year. Hell we normally put on some winter weight like every other mamal on the planet.

Can I just say, I can't wait for Hawaii pictures? No vacations for my broke bottom, so I will live vicaiously though my buddies!

Here's to a top 5 year in the life and times of Rsponsiblity 199.

  5. Okay Patrick. Remember the weight loss fundamentals that I think maybe you lost track of:

1.) Exercise does not equal weight loss. You can't exercise your way down the scale. Exercise is good and you should keep doing it, but it won't make you skinny.

2.) Watch your "empty carbs." If you are going to eat carbs, make sure they are from a real plant, such as a baked potato. Bread is not a plant.

    3.) Watch your sugar intake.

4.) Eat lots of protein. If you get hungry, EAT! But eat protein.

5.) Don't shy away from "healthy fats" like nuts, avocado, fish, cheese. Just eat them in small portions (after all, they are high in calories). Just supplement these items with high-protein foods.

6.) EAT! Don't starve yourself because the scale is being mean to you. Eat regularly, just eat small meals.

I know that sounds like a lot, but it's all basic, fundamental stuff that you already know. Just re-evaluate what you're doing and get back on track! You can do this!!

  10. You'll reach that goal this year. I bet you even reach it by the dreaded "bathing suit season." Let's do this, man! Let's do this!!!

  11. Part of the weight loss journey is, unfortunately, the occasional uptick. It happens - to everyone - and the most important thing is to not let it derail your efforts. The sooner you regain control, the more successful you'll ultimately be. I have no doubt that you'll reach your goal this year, Patrick! I'd shoot for June. Even if you don't make it to goal, you'll still be in the best possible shape for the Swimsuit State.

You will be the man-candy on your wife's arm. Go for it - 199 by Hawaii ... Man-candy status! You can do it! Aloha!

  12. Patrick, this is what I love about your posts.. you know what it takes & you WILL do it & you do! You know what you did thru year end & what it takes to start back on the losing end of this. At least you kept exercising & we all know food is at least 75% of it.

Very proud of what you have done & your attitude about accepting what happened & moving forward! I have a post on that coming up! ;-)

  13. So you've practiced "maintenance." If I were betting, I'd say you will make it by June. There's no better reason to get the pounds off, other than health, and you're definitely working on that, too.

  16. It comes back so easy, but so much work to get off- now THAT is frustrating!! Get back to your routine and kick it back off! :)

  17. Hi Patrick, it's been a long time. You are over 1/2 way to your goal. Fantastic. I am confident you will reach your goal this year. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither were we. Slow and steady wins the race. Five years when you look back and read your words you'll be smiling. Go Patrick!
