Seriously; Where does the time go?
For me it used to get thrown away waiting 6 cars deep in a drive-thru line for a Big Mac value meal and 2 double-cheeseburgers off of that lovely dollar menu (where was that when I was in college?). The doubles were my appetizer before the Big Mac main feast; anyone else do that before?
Time was also given up to watching hours, 4-5 hours an evening, of TV. Crap like reality shows and how-to shows. Did I really need to learn taxidermy & how to grout tile on the same day? Will there ever be a time I do either; let alone do them both on the same day?
Oh let's not forget those hours I punted by napping on weekends if I didn't have anything else to do or because I was stuffed from stuffing my face. Just how relaxed does one person need to be? Plus dreams from naps aren't as good anyhow.
That's where too much of my time used to go to waste when this year began. Today Big Mac's have been replaced by balanced & portion controlled choices, most TV time has been replaced by blogging, and extra sleep has been replaced by weight lifting & walking.
How is today different for you from your days just six months ago?
Did you make any resolutions on Jan. 1, 2010 (I didn't) and if so how are you doing against them?
Responsibility 199 - Gotta Do It!!
You and I shared a very similar lifestyle. I think one other big difference for me is that while I believe I'm no longer a workaholic. I now find I can derive more self-worth from getting more fit than I can from being the best at my job. Regardless, like every change, I try and focus on keeping that way every day.
ReplyDeleteI made McDonald's a very successful company in my day. Not anymore.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Patrick! Unfortunately the changes I've experienced since Jan 1 haven't been good ones as I've gained instead of lost but I'm back on track now so that's what counts, right?
ReplyDeleteLately Ive found myself reading a blog called responsibility199. Thats how my day differs.
ReplyDeleteGood idea for a post Patrick. While I've been at the health/wellness game for many years, I haven't been so good about my resolution to entertain friends at home. I've been trying to learn to cook a larger variety of meals and with a picky family, that doesn't always happen. Thanks for the gentle reminder!
ReplyDeleteI no longer take naps on the weekends. I am in the pool or working out on my wii. I have also got where I like to be outside more on the weekends.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made a ton of progress on the weight loss, but my food changes have changed, I've exercised consistently since Jan, and I haven't given up. I have given up in the past. that is not an option now. I'm reading and blogging more today than I ever was before also.
ReplyDeleteKyle, I work hard but I've been good about keeping it to 50 hours or less for a while. It's what I've done before and after with the non work hours where I am seeing the most change. As I get healthier i see a bump in aspects of work too e.g. attitude, energy.
ReplyDeleteClyde, McD's if only they offered 10% cash back reward on purchases I'd buy a big boat with what they owe me.
Rapunzel, yep, today is what counts; today and what you do with it.
DT, funny, I find I use time to read this darwins table blog and my recipes to try list has gotten bigger since doing so.
Karen, entertain friends at home, that is a unique resolution. Hope the 2nd half sees that happen more for you.
Debbie, weekends and pools seem to be a great fit. If you do nap, please dont nap in the pool.
Julie, Hi, I'll be checking out your blog shortly. Sounds like you are taking actions for change bit haven't seen progress on weight loss. Easiest diagnosis is consistency, results come from consistency and are usually absent without it.
Jody, I know you posted but we seem to have an issue with your posts saving, hope we work that out with blogspot. As always your thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks everyone!
I have not lost a ton of weight since January, but I have lost a bit. My biggest change is being consistent with working out. I am healthier than I was in January, I know that for sure. I have also cut out fast food. No more McD's runs for me, and I'm with you on those orders. Man could I throw down some double cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets. :-(
