In the afternoon, back at home, digesting comfortably, blogging casually, I am in a word; relaxing. And then I come across Kyle's post. I read all of Kyle's posts as they are always a good read. I read and read and get to the end. Huh, Who's got two thumbs? That is what Kyle laid down as a challenge in his post Sunday. Read it if you didn't.
Great, just great. There I sat relaxed, I mean I was really relaxed. But No; Kyle couldn't just let me sit and relax. Oh no, he has to challenge me to do something with my thumbs of all things. Fine!
I've had this alternate exercise in mind for a few days, so why not give it a go today since Kyle can't just let me relax. There is it, the view looking up at Stanton Hill. Not a huge hill, just 100 yards from base to summit, about a 25 degree incline; it is big enough. The idea is to walk up & down it as many times as I can in 30 minutes...
Hmm, is this a good idea? I mean come on Kyle, it's 85F, it's humid from the morning storm, the sun is bright in a near-cloudless sky, and I am dressed in black shorts and a black t-shirt. Need to think about this...
Well, Kyle needs some thumbs, so up I go. What goes up needs to come down, the view from the top; I started the climb at that soccer net you see below the summits horizon...
Up and down and again and again. Sixteen times up, sixteen times down. Sixteen is what I managed to get done in 30 minutes. Some where around trip up number seven I was sweating enough to water the grass I was trampling below. Trip nine, I was cussing the steam rising from the grass. Trip thirteen, I was cussing out Kyle; Dude I was relaxing - what am I doing here?! Oh yeah, so Kyle can have this shot...
Ok Kyle, so it is not two thumbs but rather one thumb and a little finger, my other hand is working the cell camera. So this hang-loose thumb upgesture is what I've got for my man Kyle. The soccer net was perfect to lean against while I wiped my face, caught my breath and got Kyle his shot.
Oh, I have another shot for Kyle, a smile...
Ugh, that wasn't a smile. That was supposed to be a wink and a smile. Note to self - don't wink, never wink, you look like a constipated walrus when you wink.
Here is your smile Kyle, it isn't much better, actually it may be worse, but it is all yours...
So there you have it Kyle, my victory thumbs up for keeping myself accountable to getting it done yesterday.
Kyle, You Da man, thanks...
My challenge to all of you, get Kyle the thumbs he deserves!
Responsibility 199 - Gotta Do It!!
WTG, Patrick! You have shamed me..I've been so lazy with my walking, blaming the heat. *blush* Guess I'd better get my butt out there today, huh? No excuses!
ReplyDeleteGah! I looked right at that wink!
ReplyDeleteWell done Patrick! That feeling you get from accomplishing something that you really don't want to do is fantastic, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYou can never do a hill justice with a camera. It would have been a lot steeper than it looks.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo Patrick! What an awesome accomplishment especially after the Chinese buffet...I would have been down for the count too, but you really rose to the challenge in a big freaking way.
ReplyDeleteI'm very proud...really.
Yeah Patrick!!!! This is a great thumbs up challenge... Way to go..
ReplyDeleteWay to go patrick! I found your blog linked from someone else's; I am trying to lose weight and am glad to find others out there who are going through the same thing.
ReplyDeleteGood job Patrick! I love the photos too, you can see your fab personality in all of them!
ReplyDeleteYay, Patrick!
ReplyDeleteWhat were you listening to on you iPod?

Eye Of The ... Kyle?
Awesomeness!
GREAT job!
ReplyDeleteconstipated walrus Patrick?????? I just woke up my entire house busting out laughing...
Rapunzel, Have no shame, just game. Hope the heat wasn't too bad & that you enjoyed your walking.
ReplyDeleteJack, sorry about the wink - I should have posted a proper warning label on this post.
Karen, well said, it is extra satisfying when you do what you didn't want to in the first place.
DT, yep, I thought the hill looked real puny in those photos. It is Illinois where we are challenged for hills to begin with.
Kyle, next time I do this it won't be on the heels of a Chinese buffet visit.
Debbie, Thanks, it was fun, more so than I led on in my post.
Luke, Hello, thanks for stopping by. I'll check out your blog, The Super Fatlete, shortly.
Carla, the photos were fun, I figured Kyle needed to see just what he had done.
Anne, LOL, those would have been appropriate tune choices for this. Oh I think I had the iPod on shuffle and heard everything from April Wine to ZZ Top.
Lisa, my apologies for waking everyone up. :-)
Thanks everyone!
Hmmmm.. I was sure I commented to this post but I am gone.. boo.. I won't write it again.. I am too lazy! :-)
