Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 181 - What The Friday

Picture riddle for Friday this week. There you see it. Looks geometrical, looks patterned. Doesn't look like the sky or a tie. Or does it?

This weekend I will be off hunting with the boys again. I will schedule a post for Saturday to reveal the answer to this riddle which I doubt will go unsolved.

Did you eat smart yesterday? Did you exercise? My answer is NO to both. While I didn't horrible, it sure could have been better. And since I chose not to make time to exercise, well; yesterday was not a good one. You could even call it a set back.

Set backs are going to happen. They come with a cool challenge though; the challenge to not string them into days or weeks or more. Whether the set back is small or big, and then get on keeping the distance until the next one as far out as possible.

It having happened, I feel the need to recognize it, to announce it to someone; and I am doing that here to you now. Now, this minute, is when I shall move forward once again. My very next choice will be a good one, I am putting the set back behind me and taking a step towards a healthier day.

For a while last night when the day was done I caught myself getting mad at myself; an argument with myself you could say. Had it been audible it would have had allot of bleeping out. However after a few minutes of self-anger I just stopped it.

When I realized what I was doing I also remembered where I was. My set back left me standing in a hole, albeit a small hole. But realizing that I had two choices, keep up the anger and risk getting so mad I'd actually dig deeper. Or, stop digging and climb out.

How often do we allow set backs to continue, in essence we see we are in a hole and we figure we can dig a little deeper & worry about how to dig out tomorrow. or next week, month, or when we hit 320 pounds? I believe such thinking is what got me to be 320 pounds.

So I am in a hole, and when in a hole what should you do?

STOP DIGGING!

What was the last hole you were in and when? Are you in one now?

  1. It looks like maybe a really nice butcher block/cutting board.

How many calories can you burn climbing out of a hole anyway? I bet it's lots!

  2. Hope this finds you climbing up the side of a big hill...exercise!

  3. Umm....picture riddle looks like either: 1) and inlaid table, 2) an inlaid floor, or 3) and inlaid jewelry/box of some sort.

As far as holes....don't should on yourself. That only heeps the dirt from under your feet on top of your head. So I agree with you! Stop digging! And great jog for shutting down the itty bitty sh*tty committee before they did too much damage!

  4. I think the picture is wood or faux wood.

My last holewas last night (and this morning), we were too tired to cook so we went to McD. I planned to order a salad but when Cb ordered a big mac I realized I would be miserable if I ate a salad while watching her, so I ordered a big mac too. this morning I was running late for work so I stopped there again to get a McGriddle (McDeath)

  5. I have no idea what that picture riddle could be. I know it's some kind of wooden mish mash, probably coated in a lacquer or varnish. Other than that... no clue!

Last hole was maybe a couple of weeks back when I was feeling burned out and motivation was at an all time low. Fortunately, the OctGTD (which I discovered right here. Thank you!) turned up and gave me a little kick to snap out of it :)

  6. Patrick,
I have been in a number of holes at various points over the last 11 months. It's been easy at times and tough at times too.

The last whole I was in I didn't lose (or gain) a lb for 4-5 months. Seriously. But, I didn't give up either. It was a process that I was meant to go through. I proved to myself I could stick with this lifestyle change long term.

I'm finally back to losing again. It feels good to be back on track. I don't know if there is any single advice I could give you on how to get out of a hole other than don't wait until TOMORROW. Make the change to dig out NOW.

  7. Hi Patrick,
A pergo floor (not sure if I spelled that right.)

I have to confess also about my diet. Last night I ate two bacon cheeseburgers, french frys, (from 5 guys restaurant) and a hot fudge sundae. I have not cheated in about 1 1/2 years so I don't feel too bad, other than the "hangover" feeling of eating like that.

Good Hunting. I would love to eat fresh venison.

  8. It looks like wood grain of some sort, so I'll go with a floor.

I'm constantly working myself into some kind of emotional/mental hole. Some holes are harder to get out of than others. I'm glad that I'm not in a weight loss hole, because those just SUCK. Been there before, though. The only thing you CAN do is to just keep moving forwards.

  9. It is the stone in your ring. Ugly, but it is dear to your heart..Thanks, try the veal, it's the best in the city..

  10. I'm going with a hardwood floor even though it looks too diverse and shiny to be such. Maybe a cigar box??? My last hole was probably about 4 weeks ago. It lasted about a week...I'm forming little potholes as opposed to giant pits of despair. Have fun hunting!

  11. "I am putting the set back behind me and taking a step towards a healthier day."

Me Too Patrick! Me too...lets move forward!!

mmmm, my guess for the picture is some type of flooring. Ive seen ceilings the same way too, maybe a basket?

Thanks for stopping by my blog today =)

  12. Excellent reminder, Patrick! The important thing is to not let that set-back sink in and become a way of life. Good for you for getting right back on track.

  13. Parquet floor.

I used to let setbacks happen and then throw me all the way back to the beginning and then some.

I've recently developed a better attitude. Setbacks are part of the journey. It doesn't mean my journey stops. I keep walking (or running) and I get out of the hole.

  14. I agree with Lanie about a cutting board or butcher block. And to clarify I thought about my answer before I read her comment :)

I was in a hole last week! I asked for help and everybody said change it up. Maybe a new awesome recipe or a session with a personal trainer or a new walk/run loop!

  15. The pic has to be a wooden floor, doesn't it?

Eat smart - YES, Exercise - NO, but it was a scheduled rest-day. I still shoulda gone for a walk but ain't going to beat myself up for that as it's been a great week otherwise.

It's been a while since i was in one of those holes you are referring to, but good going on recognising that you were digging yourself into one and then knowing when (and how) to stop.

  16. I am currently in a setback and fighting my way out... still not above water... fighting though...
The picture is of a video game - Rollercoaster Tycoon or facebook farm or something like that.

  17. My gentle suggestion is to do something different--if don't usually take organized classes, try one, if you usually take a walk, why not try the rowing machine. You will get out. Just don't keep kicking yourself about it.

  18. Patrick, you done good!!!!!! This: Set backs are going to happen. They come with a cool challenge though; the challenge to not string them into days or weeks or more.

That is the key Patrick.. get right back to it the same day. Don't even wait until tomorrow! You have the right attitude - dig yourself out!

    Keep it up Patrick!

  22. I seem to find myself in a hole more often than I would like too. I also get angry with myself over it. But Like you I try to realize it quickly and climb out. I also reach out and talk about it like you're doing. Sounds like your ok now.
