Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 195 - Depend On Me

Continuing on the fashion show here, today I bring you this marvelous blue checkered short with tan'ish trousers. I have no idea if they are tan, or beige or whatever. Sort of like when you buy paint, it looks tan on on the paint chip card but the real name is Grand Bagel Delight - WTH is with that? Why do I have to be tempted with hunger while shopping for paint?! Oops, sorry, I got off topic. So anyhow, there is another new clothes picture for you.

Yesterday after work my wife & I decided to meet at Target to do some grocery & party shopping for the weekend. I arrived a good 30 minutes before she did so I decided to wander the store for a bit and saw a few items that I haven't purchased in years but brought back memories...

Silly Putty, this stiff was in my Christmas stocking every year. And like most stocking stuffers it was played with for 10 minutes at most before joining the rest of the small toys in the bottom of the large toy box. But for those 10 minutes my favorite thing to do with silly putty was rip off small chunks, pat my sister on the head leaving them in her hair...

Baseball cards, I owned thousands of these. I recall they cost about 25-cents for a pack of 12 or 15 cards. My mom wall papered a wall in my bedroom with several hundred, that was cool! This pack is $2.99 for 4 cards, yikes; not cool!...

Allow me to day how much I really do believe in today's word; Dependability. What does this word mean to you? Performing as required, that is what it means to me. Yes, a bit of Marine is coming though in me in that meaning...
When we think of dependability we usually think of it in the context of others we rely on being dependable. How often do we have those same thoughts focused back on ourselves?

Who is the primary person we have to depend on to get healthy? Simple question, right? It is ourselves. Your success is dependent upon your ability to perform as required.

Believing that as I do, is very comforting to me. I am most at ease when I am in control of myself. When my fate is not in my control, not only am I not at ease but I am not at my best.

Please don't get me wrong, we need help, we need others to stand arm-in-arm with in our mission. But if we can't depend first on ourselves then we ought not expect others to make being-healthy happen for us. It just doesn't work that way in personal health & fitness.

Responsibility 199, Gotta Do It!!

  1. Great post, patrick! Silly Putty in your sister's hair? I think turnabout is fair play ... invite her over, bow your head, and hand her the Silly Putty while saying, "have at it" ...

    :D

    What?

    Great thoughts on dependability! OO-Rah!

  2. Well for me I depend on myself more than I depend on others. It has always been this way and I can't see it changing. I know what I will get with me good bad or other. There are aspects of my life that I depend on others but the vast majority of things I just need to count on myself.
You know the one thing that I remember the most about Christmas time - Me and my cousins would job down the street and scream out the Toys R Us song (I don’t wanna grow up…) so loud that everyone could hear. Sometimes other kids would join us but most of the time people looked at us like we just ate too much candy.

  3. I hope your sister got you back for that one ;)

    Nice duds dude!

Yes we must depend on us first and foremost, because if we can't do it no one can.

  5. Goodness Patrick I sure hope no children read this post especially Nicholas, poor Marie would be in trouble with TONS of silly putty in her hair lol. A really good post and I'd like to think I'm dependable to myself and others pretty equally. I do know I can count on you too. I'm enjoying the new clothes pictures, looking great.

  6. Is your sister talking to you yet? Finally, 50 years later, my big brother is one of my best friends.
    You're looking great.
That is a good feeling. I like depending on myself to do something the way I want it done. This is not something I want to delegate!

You think the silly putty act n your sister was bad? You should hear what I dd when I was 9, to my poor friend Mark Levine. Let's just say he will never, ever play with Pick-Up-Sticks again!!!!

  12. I LOVE SILLY PUDDY!!! LOVE IT! I also love this post. It is so true that we have only ourselves to blame for where we are, but only ourselves can get us where we want to be. Great one, as usual.

  14. You look awesome Patrick!!!! Really thin! Way to go!

I LOVED silly putty as a kid. I remember sitting on the floor next to my daddy and flattening out the silly putty and sticking it to his newspaper. LOL It wasn't long before the stuff was all over the house and I was begging mommy to get me more. We always got it in our stocking too. Oh memories...

I appreciate this post a lot. I need to depend on myself. I don't feel very dependable sometimes, but truly we are the ones in control of ourselves. Thanks for the reminder.
