GO, that is my word for the day. I am not at work this morning, so no fancy white board. Just cheap ball point pen to scrap paper. No picture of new clothes today either. I just got back from a 2 mile walk/jog combo where I posted a new PR at 29:03 minutes. So you see me in my cheap workout shirt trying to get this post put together so I get on to eating some breakfast and a take a shower...
Where do you want to GO today?
Rewards rock! And they certainly can help motivate, they do for me. But those of us that use rewards for attaining milestones must keep rewards in perspective. The rewards are not meant to be the primary, or even secondary, reason we strive to get healthy.
Rewards are simply carrots we dangle to help us alongside the real reasons we do this. For everyone our real reasons are different and most of us have shared them from time to time with each other. If I were to hazard a guess, and I shall; a guess at the commonality amongst all of our real reasons I would say longevity & happiness may be the big two. Fitting into smaller stuff may be a close third :-)
For my 40% to goal weight reward it took me a couple months to cash in that reward. Simply I debated whether I really needed the hitch-haul I had originally set out for that goal. Mixed into that self-argument was the looming reality that I needed a whole new set of work clothes. As I shared last week my wife ended my internal argument for me and took me shopping, so new clothes it was. I Love My Wife!
For my 50% to goal weight reward it took me a couple days to cash in. There it is below, my new hunting rifle. Bought it on Sunday, the day I verified I had eclipsed the 50% mark. Illinois has a 1-day waiting period before you can pick up purchased rifles yet it took me two days to get back to the store to bring it home. For any fellow hunting or shooting enthusiasts out there I picked out a Savage Arms 7MM Rem Mag Rifle w/3-9x40MM Scope.
Now on towards the 60% milestone which I hope to attain by end of year at the latest.
Responsibility 199 - Gotta Do It!!
Well, not a gun or hunting person but YAHOO for new clothes!!!! Always feels good.. or so I hear. Have not bought new stuff in ages! Yes, for now health & not having people take care of me as I age.. important. I think about that more the older I get.
ReplyDeleteGO Patrick! :-) My workout is done & I need some post gym sleep now...
Run Bambi! Run Bambi! Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!
ReplyDeleteMan you are on a mission. Stop for a moment and be proud! Smile at yourself from time to time. In my journey I needed to smile and be proud - this helped with motivation. ONWARD!
ReplyDeleteYay for all your new rewards!!! That's such an awesome milestone. I agree rewards shouldn't be our only motivation but it sure feels good when you reach the goal and get your reward. Great post!
ReplyDeleteYou rock!!
ReplyDeleteSweet gun!! Congrats on making your goals so you can cash in on those rewards! I'm currently having issues about my Final Goal Weight Reward. Originally I wanted to go to Vegas, but since I'm out of work, that seems much too expensive right now. So what else can I do that's super awesome and extreme and fun?! I've been mulling it over for a few days now! Oh, and thank you for joining my half marathon challenge!!! We're going to rock this out, Patrick!!! Wahoo!!
ReplyDeleteI love rewards too!! For me it's a charm bracelet from Tiffany's. I actually have been putting the money away after each milestone. Have $70 bucks so far. Need about $300!! I'm really motivated to get this thing. It's not something I would EVER buy for myself. So it is a real treat!! Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work and keep focused!!
Your face looks really thin in that picture Patrick. I'm so proud of you. As for rewards mine always seemed so big. So they weren't very frequent. But really it is all what each of us strive for. Yep healthy and happiness sounds like great things to strive for. Glad you got yourself a nice reward. You definitely deserved it.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about the rewards. Though I do like having the carrots along the way, the best rewards are all the NSVs.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the reward and my husband would kill to have that gun. Good hunting with it..
ReplyDeletenice weapon. Add a sandbag/bipod and a ghilli suit and it could have the potential of being a great toy.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Patrick! I like Savage Arms also. I have a really really old 22 Savage rifle that I am never going to part with. Why 7MM? Just curious your thoughts?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Patrick!
ReplyDeleteI like to dangle carrots too, but as you said, hardly the primary reason for achieving goals. Health (longevity), and comfort ... I'm already happy ... are my two big reasons.
Being morbidly obese has NOT been comfortable for me. I'm tired of being tired, not being able to bend, getting winded doing little things, etc. I finally said, "enough, enough."
I don't really have any rewards set up for when i achieve goals, just a tick in a box on my blog....hmmmm, i'll have to have a think about adding some more tangible incentives to the mix. Nice one on getting to the 50%.
ReplyDeleteI haven't set out any specific rewards. My hubby and I both agree that when we both hit our ultimate goal weights, we're going to spring for one of those really cool REI trips. But I don't know about smaller goals yet. Congrats on the gun!
ReplyDeleteHere's to longevity & happiness. I'll toast to that for sure. That's what it's all about! :)
ReplyDeleteWay to go on reaching another goal and getting a reward!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on meeting a goal and your reward!
ReplyDeleteLook at your slim, cute face!
ReplyDeleteAnd cute gun - weapon as well!
Nice reward Patrick!
