Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 227 - F-18 Flyover Accomplished

Monday was owned. Food near perfect, Exercise nailed!

Queue the anthem and the F-18 flyover... Ok, maybe the fly-over would be a bit much. But that feeling of accomplishment where your are brimming with pride for a job well done, that is how my Monday came off for me. Of course you really can't get the full effect of that feeling until you wake up the next day when there is no longer any opportunity to ruin yesterday.

One key to yesterday's feel-good, how I balanced the days food. The picture there is of my lunch for Monday. Where Monday was spot-on for me is that the calories on my lunch plate exceeded those of my dinner plate. Why is that a big deal?

For so very very long (yes 2 very's) that has not been the case. Even while on this mission which has been largely successful I have struggled to avoid eating 40-50% of my days calories at dinner.

What you see there is garden salad with egg splashed with a bit of sesame oil & ranch accompanied with a bowl of veggie chili; this meal rang in at about 625 calories. My dinner (not pictured) of turkey breast (yes leftovers from Thursday) & fruit salad rang in at about 350 calories.

Over the past several months I have come to know my body fairly well. And I know it feels better, performs better, and maybe even looks better (underscore maybe) when I eat in better balance and when my mid-day meal is larger of the three meals. This I need to remember and strive for daily for what I hope are obvious reasons.

Now I am writing this post read as if such feelings of accomplishment are rare for me. Not the case, they are far more a regular part of my days these past 7+ months than ever. Such feelings of accomplishment can motivate greatly and ought to be recognized and sought after; my opinion.

Hit me with what gave you your last F-18 flyover feeling of accomplishment.

Oh, and for those who may not know what I mean by F-18 flyover, then for crying out loud get yourself to a big time football game, or better yet to a Nascar race; stand, salute, cheer & hang on... Until then just watch THIS.

  2. Congrats on that accomplishment, Patrick. When I lived in Mexico, we routinely had our biggest meal midday, and only the lightest meal at night (just to ward off hunger pangs). And, while thin at the time, I STILL dropped weight - eating the same volumes, but just in a different order. It really is a smarter way to eat. I need to get back to that, actually. Thanks for the reminder!

  3. You go Patrick! Like you, I like to eat more earlier & mid day & lighter at night & feels better before I hit the sack too! :-) Actually many experts suggest eating your larger meals at breakfast & lunch.... there ya go!

Me, fly over... every workout just trying my best & not giving up!

  4. I made that switch too. My eating plan is like an upside down triangle. I eat my biggest meal for breakfast, a medium sized meal at lunch and something light at dinner. It has amazed me the amount of success I've had eating this way. I just can't eat a big meal at night anymore.

My accomplishment is running. I've been working up to it and am doing the C25K. This former firmly rooted in the couch potato is now a runner!

  5. underline better.... say it isn't so!! Great job. I have been trying to get less calories at dinner as well... as the saying goes:

    Eat breakfast like a King,
    Lunch like a Lord, and
    Dinner like a Pesant.

    :)

  6. Congrats on the great day!

I'm with you. I do better when I eat more at lunch and less at dinner.

  7. Me too, Patrick. I try to eat the larger meals early in the day and take it easy at dinner. My digestive system likes it that way.

  8. Well, for me I eat the most at dinner. I found when I tried to eat too little at dinner it resulted in disastrous snacking. But, it does vary as that is my life. Yesterday I ate 3 pretty similar calorie meals and 2 small snacks.

My last flyover moment was taking my TKD test and getting my yellow belt. I certainly agree that we need these times as motivation. I have to be careful of feeling OVER accomplished, though because for me it leads to celebration attitude and food reward triggers which I still struggling with. Luckily that is much rarer these days.

    Glad your Monday Rocked!

  10. I think it's impressive that you've put it together that you feel better when your midday meal out"weighs" (hehe..I crack me up) your dinner. This makes me want to pay more attention and keep better track of when I feel better.

  11. Patrick get OUTTA my HEAD! This is too much of a coincidence! I went to Costco with a friend today (on her membership) and stocked up on fresh fruit. I have been off track since we reached our 199 goal and really not as motivated as I should've been. While still in the store, we heard the F18s doing their practice maneuvers over the store and I tried to convince my workout buddy that it was in celebration of the huge packages of pineapple, grapes, raspberries, etc that I had in my cart.

    Freaky!

  13. good job balancing your meal...I am always trying to do the same. I need more carbs in the morning less at night. I had a fly over moment this morning but I don't talk about those moments until I see them three days in a row ;)

  14. Days like that are always awesome!! I honestly hadn't put much thought into the percentage of my calories I use at each meal, so I looked back through my tracking for the past 2 weeks and I've been taking in less at dinner than lunch for the majority. The scale has moved downward slowly and steadily this month, so I guess your way is working for me! My most recent F-18 moment was last night after I finished day 1 of the c25k!

  15. I still eat most at dinner, but not by a huge margin - i'm pretty good at spreading my calorie load out evenly over the day. Having more than a hearty soup or a sandwich at lunch would make me feel full for a couple of hours in the afternoon which i don't like. I prefer the smaller lunch with mid-morning and mid-afternoon healthy snacks to spread it out.

My most recent fly-over moment was running for a solid 25 minutes. When i finished, it felt like I was the first across the line at the Olympic marathon but when i opened my eyes there was no cheering stadium, no new world record, no gold medal, and no champagne...just the knowledge that i was awesome.
