Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 124 - Fielders Over Jackhammers

Good Morning!

Solid day of eating yesterday. Opportunities for temptation were snubbed by my insane focus on a crazy busy day at work. The picture you see to the left is my lunch from the office cafeteria; Grilled Salmon w/ Avocado Salsa, Stir-fried Veggies and Steamed Brown Rice. Overall our cafeteria is very friendly to those looking to live healthy. Of course there is also a line for burgers, pizza and other unfriendly choices.

In the evening my son & I were headed to a local minor league baseball game. Dining on ball park food for dinner did not appeal to me. Ok, it did appeal to me, but I thought better of such appealings. Instead we chose to go to Applebee's which was on the way. I am not a big fan of places like Applebee's, Chili's, Denny's, etc... to me these establishments rely on excessive salt & poorly administered seasoning to mask their inability to bring ingredients together to create flavor. But, Applebee's for convenience it was us last night. there I chose a dish off of the Under 550 Calorie menu, Spicy Shrimp Diavolo. It filled the void in my stomach, and I doubt it was just 550 calories, I'll leave it at that.

No exercise yesterday so I still need to get in another cardio and another strength workout before Sunday's weigh in. I plan to get in one or the other this evening.

As promised yesterday's log looked like this....
  • 6a - Tomato Juice, Coleslaw (yes, I made too much the night before and wasn't letting it go to waste)
  • 830a - More Tomato Juice,Banana
  • 10a - Milk
  • 1215p - Grilled Salmon w/ Avocado Salsa, Stir-fried Veggies and Steamed Brown Rice
  • 6p - Spicy Shrimp Diavolo (seen below)

Baseball - Andrew & I went to see the Lake County Fielders host the Joliet Jackhammers last night; minor league teams have the best nick-names. Here are a few pictures of the game which Lake County won 6-4...

That is 'Lucky', the Fielders mascot. He was one busy dog between innings.

The Fielders fell behind 4-0 early and scrapped their way back with bunts like this.
Yes, bunt are seldom exciting, but this one was.

Between innings minor-league style. The John Deere Tractor-Tricycle race, the winner was neither of these dudes; they crashed into each other and wiped out.

Andrew cheking the stats in the program and recalling the days when he little & pony league ball played nearby.

Have an Amazingly Healthy Day!

  1. Your eating is awesome..Ever have the V-8 stuff, with less calories, same punch as straight tomato juice. I likes it with Vodka, maybe... Sounds great and minor league ball is fun. Of course we have the NY Yankees here, and....

  3. Let me get this straight. You can get THAT food at your office and people still stand in the burger line?? CRAZY PEOPLE are everywhere. That looks fabulous and I now hate you just a little bit.

Minor league baseball is the baseball I choose if I'm going to watch it. Why? Because these guys are doing their damnedest to play hard and move up and they appreciate the fans more unlike those a-holes the Yank...oops Allan's been here. I mean those a-holes the Mets?

I think you're doing awesome on eating. Can I just make one observation? Juice is a healthier choice than others, but whole foods provide your body with more nutritional bang for your calorie buck. Especially fiber. Instead of the juice for snack, maybe some tomato slices. A whole tomato is like 30 calories and has higher fiber and lycopene, the cancer fighting antioxidant. The fiber keeps you full longer because it takes so much longer to digest.

  4. The office lunch looks delicious! Coleslaw for breakfast? Well, I'll admit that you have a stronger stomach then I do...

  5. That salmon and avocado salsa looks really delicious! Actually screw the salmon -- I'll just take the avocado salsa! LOL! :-)

I LOVE minor league baseball! I grew up going to the Beloit Brewers when I was a kid. Once my brother sold me to the bat boy, and I was terrified that the kid was going to rape and pillage me or something, like brutal midevil style. This kid DID actually haul me to his car at halftime (in retrospect I think he did this as a joke to scare the crap out of me, which is DID!!) and I kicked him in the shins and ran away.

Somehow minor league baseball is always inexplicably connected to that memory with the bat boy.

  6. CHRISTINE -not sure you will see this so I'll mention in tomorrow's post if this problem continues, but the past couple of days I have had problems posting comments to your blog. The box for posting comments is different, Disqus appears above the box versus the lines for name, email and website that were there before. I've tried on 2 computers, I'll try again later. Isee others commenting so it has to somehow be me.

  7. Your cafeteria pretty much rocks.

  8. Yes, your cafeteria gets kudos for having nutritious meals and brown rice! Nice. DH's cafeteria is similar. He's been at WW goal for 2 years. I usually make an extra serving of dinner for his lunch, but if he forgets he just buys downstairs and is fine. When I was a teacher it was BAD news. You'd think we'd feed our children well, but no, not so. And Appleby's? I agree, their calorie counts are probably not spot on, but you did well anyway, to eat there rather than ball park food. Keep on truckin!

  9. You need me to come to where you live. When I lived in New England for the year the Red Sox won!!!!

  10. I got your comment, Patrick (no need to clutter your blog posts up with personal notes to me! LOL! Although I'd find that a hoot nonetheless!) I wonder why it's not working? Hmmm? You can always email me at Sherazade96@hotmail.com as well. I'll try in a different web browser and from home as well and try to see if it's a problem with disqus or with your machine...THANKS!

  13. Okay, why is it that they didn't have any food that looked that good at the cafeteria when I worked? The best I could do was a turkey sandwich with some scary looking gel stuff that congealed on the meat.
