Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 116 - Powered By Mosquitoes

Source
Awesome chat on yesterdays post & topic feeding kids, fast food, etc... hope it didn't make anyone relapse and drive thru and grab a happy meal on the way home. After a heavy topic like that I need to lighten up today's post. And I have a few chuckles to share thanks to a conversation yesterday where some bad jokes were told, lets hope I got them close to right...

For every minute we exercise we add minute our lives which allows us to live as long as another 5 months in our elder years, which will cost us $25,000 figuring $5000 per month in a nursing home.

Some studies conclude that those who pick up exercise in the golden years do so in order to enjoy the sounds of heavy breathing again.

When listing out Pros & Cons for taking up exercise, which one would you list this under; Exercising every day allows you to die healthier.

Ok, not the greatest set of jokes, but if you even grinned a little, then I am satisfied :-)

Exercise - I went for a walk, the 2-mile neighborhood loop, yesterday evening. It was quite warm, but not hot. It was sticky, but not unbearable. What was a pain in the neck were the mosquitoes. It didn't take long for me to get going before I realized I was a walking banquet. I figured the best response was to just walk fast. That and I also walked in the street, farther from the bushes and brush along the way. It helped, but I was still a moving snack for the most determined mosquitoes.

As I was walking I tried to use the mosquitoes as motivation and thought of setting a new PR for that walk. It almost worked, 33:53, just seven seconds slower than my current PR there. Maybe if the mosquitoes had been even more determined? Just kidding, determination is all on me, not the bugs around me.

Personal Records were bound to hit a plateau of some sort and they seem to have done just that. I had been ringing them up fairly regular there for a period but knew their frequency would wane. The fact that I've hit a groove on some of my exercise times doesn't mean that PR's will disappear, unless I choose to disregard them. I think that what it really means is that I need to get leaner & stronger if want to produce better PR's on these same exercises. That and I may need to find new challenges to keep things fresh and as well keep me progressing.

Understanding that PR's themselves are of minor importance compared to getting the exercise in and moving forward on my mission to achieve Responsibility 199.

Dusk, starting to feel the squeeze from the summer season moving towards fall. Getting darker earlier. Not that I am afraid to walk in the dusk or darkness. But I do certainly prefer the day light. If it is dark out, my mind says get to bed. Obviously I am going to have to get over that silliness and walk in the dark as it will just get darker earlier and earlier especially when daylight savings time ends; when is that, November?

  1. The jokes made me grin. Troubel with mosquittos try one of those off fan things, my wife swears by them, I also go to bed when it is dark and have notced it is darker sooner now.

  2. I'm feeling the squeeze on the other side of the day, since I'm a morning exerciser. I realized that it won't be long until I'm doing my morning runs in full dark. At first it was a depressing thought, but I'm determined to find the positive in it.

The mosquitoes are horrible here right now too. Bug spray is my friend.

  3. One nice thing about AZ, not many mosquitoes. I'd invest in some bug spray if I were you. I prefer walking in the dark so neighbors can't see the heaving, bright red face with sweat stains making her way around the block.

  4. My goal is to be the healthiest person in the nursing home. :)

  5. It IS getting dark out earlier, isn't it? I feel like it just got noticeably darker starting a week ago. It's throwing me for a loop.

Congrats on the walking. You don't always have to beat a PR. However, if you need to have a goal to work towards or a record to beat, you could always strive for walking longer distances and, eventually, work your way up to jogging. You could try some paths that have bigger elevations as well.

  6. I hate jokes and they should be legislated too!!! :-)
Sorry if my intensity bothered anyone yesterday – I love the kids and want to see our world make it a few more generations…

  7. I agree with Christine. When I started to just do long walks (5-7 miles), I improved my short-walk/job pace. The longer walks do take much more time, but it might be a nice break from the routine.

  8. Great attitude on exercise & PR's Patrick! We obviosly can't have a PR every time. Just staying consistent & eating well is key!

My friend was back east & had these blue looking things hanging off her & hubby & she said they were for mosquitos & they worked!

    I love Madame Cur's response!

  9. Hate mosquitoes! I exercise early, but I had an encounter with a bee (or wasp) that was dive bombing me for about a mile along the trail. I was hot, sweaty, and tired and the bee/wasp was hugely irritating I tried to run my fastest sprint, but wasn't able to ditch him until a lovely young thing ran past me. She was a vision of loviliness, slim, long blond hair, navel ring, calm, cool and collected. I wanted to be her. She also had a personal cloud of spring blossom scent that worked perfectly to lure my little buzzing companion away.

  10. Hi, this is Tracy,

Great jokes...I work in healthcare, so the nursing home joke made laugh out loud! Thank you.

I too intend no offense to anyone regarding kids, and want the best global future possible. It's good to have a place to express...thank you again 199!!

  11. Well, it seems not much mosquito love from this bunch. Oh well, too bad for them bugs. I don't think (sure hope not) that anyone took any offense from opinions shared in Tuesday's topic & debate. I thought the opinions were just that, personal opinions on the matter and the debate cordial. I know that I enjoyed it.

Going to give that a look in a minute here.

Thanks all for the thoughts here!
