Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 110 - Holy Sleeping Stapler

Whoa, It is Thursday already. Keeping a sense of time this week has not been easy. Thanks again for all of the warm wishes & prayers for my wife & family. She is doing good, a bit better than expected in terms of recovery pace. There is a chance she will be home today, just a chance, say 30% or so. And if she doesn't that is fine, better to stay another day so the first day back home is not any harder than it need be. We'll know by Noon today where she will sleep tonight.

Now that I am dropping some weight and it is becoming noticeable I get into a few conversations with folks asking me what I am doing, telling me what they have done, etc... they are welcome chats. Yesterday one such chat occurred and we got a tad off on a slant about weirdest diets tried.

Myself I have not tried anything too odd. The oddest may have just been being very calorie restrictive, say 800 or so a good decade or so back. But the guy I was talking too had a few doozies he had put to the test over the years.

The Sleeping Diet - He bought into the notion that when you are asleep you don't eat. So, to help increase his sleep he would sedate himself as often as he could and in a sense went on a starvation diet. He lost weight, but he also gained new problems like severe headaches and bad bowel issues. YUCK!

Ear Stapling - yep, just what it says. He pierced the cartilage of his ears. Doing so is said to reduce your appetite. He couldn't say why it worked and in fact he said it didn't. He was warned that it only works for a few weeks before the body gets used to the staple and no longer recognizes it for its appetite suppression. For him it wore off in 2 days and on the 3rd he was back at McDonalds to makeup for 2 days lost time. Huh?

The Holy Diet - from the bible apparently there is a verse that lists natural vegan foods which you restrict yourself too.He forgot the verse. No food listed can be cooked. He actually liked this for a time as he learned a new respect for eating vegan and lost a chunk of weight. But he fell off the wagon at a party and realized he couldn't commit himself to the diet any more than he had committed himself to God,which he hadn't. Geez...

What is the craziest diet you have ever attempted?

  1. Could a person staple their ear, AND sedate themselves?
    That might work....

  2. So glad your wife is doing good! Nowadays they want to kick you out of the hospital too soon so better safe than sorry as they say. Don't want her to go home too early!

CRAZY DIETS out there... ya have to be able to do something long term, a lifestyle change so that is why these crazy things do not work!!!

The only thing I did was eat way too few calories & retsrict healthy fat way too much in my younger years. I never went on any of the crazy things out there!

  3. Glad your wife is doing well!!!

Is the Bible diet the "Hallehuliah Diet" or "Daniel" or something like that? I remember hearing about it years ago.

There are all sorts of things out there!

NEVER heard of the sleeping thing. Now THATs out there!

  4. So glad the wife is doing okay!

Oh, I've definitely done the "sleep instead of eat" thing before. (Note: Your body can get very addicted to Sominex and rely on it to sleep at all.) I've also gone all-out-starvation; I went three months with no more than 100 calories worth of watered down juice per day. I didn't lose a single pound! What a waste. Probably the weirdest diet was the Master Cleanser though: freshly squeezed lemon juice, Grade B maple syrup, and a dash of cayenne pepper. Just that...no food...three to five times a day. Blerg! ha ha!

  5. I'm glad your wife is recovering so nicely. Not letting up on prayers yet, though.
Those are some weird diets. Several months ago I tried to resurrect the 10 day 10 pounds off diet from my teen years (grapefruit, bacon, eggs, lean meat, salad & green beens). It worked just like it used to. I lost a pound or more a day for seven day straight. I was thrilled. Then I reverted to my normal WW diet. I gained every pound by by the second day. I'd forgotten the gaining it all back part. Live and learn (again).

  6. Wow. I'd never heard of the ear stapling thing before. Very bizarre. Haven't tried anything wacky, just the ol' cabbage soup diet, WW, Atkins, South Beach. Glad your wife is doing OK.

  7. The craziest diet I ever tried was the "Kimkins" diet. It is a crazy low carb very low calorie, basically starvation, diet made up by a mobidly obese con artist named Heidi Diaz. I lost weight very quickly on it...as I ended up eating around 300-500 calories a day on many days. I also lost muscle tone & my ability to think clearly. Once I went off of the stupid diet of death I quickly regained everything i had lost plus a whole lot more. That's when I made the promise to myself that I would never "diet" again. It was going to have to be a complete life style change.

  8. Great news about your wife...healing thoughts for the fullest and quickest of recoveries.

I wouldn't say it was a crazy diet and a bit like Atkins...it was the "No Whites" diet. Basically, if it was white, you didn't eat it. Sugar, Flour, Eggs, Dairy, etc. Basically meat and non-starchy veggies.
