Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 305 - Memories Are So Odd

Today is day 305 of my mission. Yesterday 304, tomorrow Lord willing will be 306. Now that I have the math out of the way allow me to entertain myself, and you, with why the number 305 is bouncing around my head like my niece bounced around my family room this past weekend.

How often does 305 pop up? OH it does at times when channel-surfing the TV, or when the amount to be paid is $3.05, or when a crash in the race I'm watching occurs on lap 305; the number really does pop up more often that one would expect. Whenever I see the number 305, my mind instantly reminds me that my 3rd grade classroom number was 305. I cannot tell you what my 2nd grade, or fourth grade classroom numbers were, or any other grades room number.

What happened in room 305 that burned that number into my memory so?

Dumplings. Anytime I see Chicken & Dumplings on a menu, on a buffet, or served at a dinner party; where ever it may be I almost always pass up on it. I know there is no way, NONE, they could be better than the dumplings my Great Grandma Bella used to make. When I hear the word dumpling, I think immediately of her. I'm sure she'd appreciate knowing that is how I remember her best.

We're her dumplings really that amazing that passing all other dumpling opportunities is justified?

Pencils, you may recall for Hanukkah I shared this story of my encounter with Sheldon Reese with you. To this day when I see a freshly sharpened pencil, or hear a pencil sharpener doing its thing; I instantly am reminded of Sheldon and look upon anyone armed with a pencil with a cautionary glare.

I have other memory triggers which I find odd. But those are enough to give you sense of how my mind looks backwards as well as forwards. We do need to leverage our past experiences, our memories, to help us forge better results ahead. But for the life of me I cannot figure out how 305, Dumplings & Sheldon popping in my head as they do does much for forging anything more than a smile and occasional chuckle.

Got Odd Memories?

Responsibility 199 - Gotta Do It!!

  1. Hey, a smile and a chuckle are neeeeded things. ;)

  2. I have and odd memory of kindergarten, going outside in the snow to collect snow flakes to examine under a microscope. These days if anyone even SAYS snow school is called off. I also remember the teacher smacking my arm with a yardstick when I talked during quiet time. :) I was just a royal brat sometimes. LOL

  3. 137 is the number that is stuck in my min d. The lowest weight I ever was.

I am sure my dumplings do not hold a candle to your Great grandmas, but my children still say it is the best thing I made when they were kids!

  4. Very interesting stuff. Garth Brooks' "That Summer" always takes me back to falling asleep in the back of the family car on the way back from a softball tournament. I can actually picture it and see the trophy on the floor of the car next to my mitt, the whole 9 yards. I'm sure most people wouldn't think of something like that when they hear that song but it gets me every time. Corsages make me think of the very first wedding I was in where I had to dance with a boy. Teddy Bears remind me of my kindergarten teacher.

  5. 14 - that is my number & memory. Have not been a woman's size 14 since High School (25 years - wow) Striving for that number. Little by little the goal will be met and with that 14 will come and go - 12, 10 and maybe even 8 will appear! "Staying MOtivated"

  6. My mail box number in college was 305 and my campus phone number was 3050! I think we all have odd things stuck in our memories.

  7. You are one funny & crazy guy!!! I can't even think of a number that pops into my head at all. Is that sad???? ;-)

  8. Memories are indeed odd. Ham and Beans make me think of my great grandmother, and spagetti squash reminds me of Maryland.

  9. Rice Pudding always makes me remember my great-grandma. She rocked....and made the creamiest, most-luscious Rice pudding ever. The nectar of the Gods would fade by comparison!

Chuckle and a smile sounds like a good way to start the day Patrick.

  10. I have days where a number triggers associatons/memories and then I see that number all darn day long! :)

I envy you having had the world's best chicken and dumplings. I am nuts about chicken and dumplings. OMG, so good, so comforting! COMFORT FOOD!

Red bean soup is a very nostalgic food for me. Think of my mom and pouring olive oil over it and sometimes asking her to slice a banana in there.....and how I wanted a big bowl, and sometimes when I was really little, she'd puree it for me, cause I didn't want the "lumps" (ie, the actual beans hahahah). :) Even when we went to the world's fair...I asked for red bean soup and the restaurant didn't have it and I was being all bratty. :) I still get the warm fuzzies when I think of mom's red bean soup with my dad's dumplings (which no one else int he family can replicate, so I guess I'll never have em again, unless God lets Dad make em in Heaven for me).

Haven't had any for a looong time. Given I'm dieting, won't be having any for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

    Be well....

  11. We were talking about pencil memories on Sunday. Weird. My mom told me that my dad had pencil lead deep in his arm that you could see until the day he died. My hubby has one in his palm. I never knew pencils were so dangerous, and then Mandy told me today how her youngest had wanted to put Valentine pencils under everyone's pillow last night. Pencilly pencils.

  12. It's crazy, isn't it Patrick. I remember smells a lot or sounds from years ago, but what I had for dinner two days ago...I'm at a loss (lol).

  13. Your mind spins the same as anyone elses. I am the queen of "oh that reminds be, remember ___________." With the blanks being a completely random subject that has absolutely nothing to do with whatever was just being discussed.
