Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 348 - From Cats To Waffles

The PET Scan itself was conducted well yesterday. I won't hear results until today at the earliest and more likely tomorrow. The waiting game continues on here.

Wednesday April 13th is my surgery date for the sentinel node removal/biopsy and as well removing more tissue on my forehead where the melanoma was removed nearly a month ago. So it'll be a couple of weeks yet before I know with a good degree of certainty whether I can breathe a sigh of relief of brace for a more involved battle.

But enough about the waiting for tomorrow or two weeks from now. Today is here, what is on tap today.

Waffles; my wife has caught a spring cold and wanted waffles for breakfast so I made her waffles. I also made waffles for the kids too. I chose to abstain from the waffle quorum call, instead went with a high-protein omelet.

College; as it is spring break we have time to work the tomorrow's of the kids. Two of my boys and I will head off to Northern Illinois University shortly for a college visit. One is a high-school sophomore and the other a junior. I don't think either really wants to spend their spring break time this way, but since the school is on both of their lists today is the day. Speaking of their lists, they include 69 and 9 colleges respectively. Our senior who selected her college a few months ago never had more that 6 or 7. When we ask our freshman (yes we have 4 in h.s., one in each grade) about his list, he jokingly says he is going to live at home and play xbox for a living. Thus his list is still a blank sheet of paper.

Cats; one of our cats is sick (yeah, our house is a sickly place at the moment). Nobody else is brave enough to give the cat is medicine so I have that chore twice a day now. It is just a cat; it's not like he has eyes that fire lazers! Even though it weighs a stout 14 pounds holding it down, wedging the medicine dropper between his teeth, squirting the medicine down his throat, and then holding his jaw shut for a few seconds to ensure swallowage (is that a word); it is not that hard. Meow!

Ok, off now to get in some exercise before getting gathered and setting out to NIU.

Final thoughtImpossible and possible, the difference is measured in determination.

How determined are you today?

  1. I've been thinking about you:) Hope all goes well and you get good news.

That college thing is going on here and stressing me out. My son is a senior and, as of last night, heard from all the schools he applied to. We are headed out to visit one in CA soon. We did visit some his junior year but this one I thought was a long shot and long trip!

  3. These medical things do take their own sweet time. Tomorrow (finally) Husband will have his outpatient hernia repair. He is a baby, so it will be a big deal. Hang in there, Patrick. You have plenty of distractions there with the college visits going on.

    Have a great workout

  5. NIU is an okay school. Not much going on in Dekalb though...it's a real country bumpkin school. Rockford (my stomping grounds) is the nearest big city, and that's a little (ahem) pathetic. Does NIU specialize in one of the programs he wants to study?

  6. Not as determined as I need to be but I'm working on it.

I have a hArd enough time getting my kids to take medicine...much less a cat.

I can't imagine having 4 kids in high school (and next college) at the same time! Very scary!

You are still in my thoughts, Patrick. Will be hoping for good news for you.

  8. I'm determined to brave the chilly threatening skies and get in a walk this morning. DH is the waffle maker in our house and does a super job--maybe it's a chromosome thing. Have fun on the college visits--our daughter definitely changed her mind as to favorite colleges when she made visits. 69 colleges?? We'll it's good to start with a large number. Daughter narrowed hers down effectively by deciding that she wanted them to have a class in Ultimate Frisbee (Stanford did!). Still praying.

  9. I am very proud of you for staying strong and determined during all of this. For me it would be hard to focus on anything more than those test results.

  11. I am very confused by the picture of the cats. Maybe it's because I just watched James Marsden's sexy head shot clip on Ellen making it difficult for me to concentrate.

  12. Sick cats might like waffles too. By the way, a single waffle with a little peanut butter smeared across the top is a (fairly) decent quick breakfast with only a hint of decadence.

Hope cat and wife get better. Fingers crossed for test/surgery.

  13. Love that last quote Patrick!!! Of course you know I am thinking of you always & we all hope for the best outcome!

Your youngest son, ah, now that would be nice, right! Hey, lots of the younger ones are getting degrees in these gaming areas! Blizzard Entertainment Corp headquarters is right down the street from me! :-)

    Be safe!

  14. I love your picture today! It is too cute. I didn't feel very determined this morning, but now that the day is winding down I realize I must have been determined because I'm accomplished everything on my to do list for the day!

  16. I gave my cat a pill once (years ago)
She kicked me hard and scratched and bit me (of course)
And cut me perfectly - right across the wrist!
To this day, I have a scar..... many many many
people think "the worst" when they see it!
    *sigh*

I, too will be sending good thoughts your way!

  17. They probably just don't want to be on kitty's bad list. I take it none of them want to go to veterinarian school?
