Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 254-256 Post Holiday Awakening

So how was your Christmas weekend? Festive & Fun I hope. Was Santa good to you? Or did you get on Santa's bad side in 2010 and found yourself looking at an appropriately awful pile of something in your stocking instead? Hopefully it was not the latter and you were quite pleased with your Christmas all around.

Christmas Eve is when we celebrate in our house and I touched on our celebration in my last post; great time. Christmas Day my wife and I chilled out together as we do every year. The kids leave Christmas Eve night about 10 p.m.'ish to go spend the night and Christmas Day with their Mom/Dad from our respective 1st marriages. We've had this arrangement for a dozen years now and it has worked out quite nice. One day for Christmas that is dedicated to the kids and family, and then another just to each other.

So on Christmas Day my wife & I usually take out time getting out of bed, then play with our new toys or the kids new toys depending on if they got something good. Eventually we get out and go to a movie and then to dinner. Many of the finer dining joints are open on Christmas Day and have special menus for the day. No way we'd cook for ourselves on Christmas Day after the large production we put together each Christmas Eve. This year we went and saw Little Fockers; not a bad show for a sequel of a sequel. Sure, overly predictable for the most part, but a decent comedy played out by some great talent.

Up there you see a picture of me and another of my gifts received; it is Burt the farting Hippo who has been made famous on the t.v. show NCIS. Yep, as expected, squeeze his ass and he farts; hilarious!

Ok, off I go to get in some miles. My wife just jumped on the treadmill, I can hear it whinning as she gets her 'move' on upstairs. The holidays are largely over for me and I've moved on from all the bad foods and lazy days. I took in too much temptation on Christmas Eve & Day to be honest. Nothing as bad as in years past, but still too much. The past two days I have gone out and put in 4 miles each; and as soon as I publish this I am going out for 4 more. Another new toy of mine is this new Blackhawks skull cap...
Perfect for walking in 20F morning air.

You getting in any exercise today?

  3. I love the farting hippo! Hilarious. If my son had known about it, he'd have put it on his list this year for sure!

You have a great attitude (as always) about the balance of your family's activities. Inspiring as usual.

I'm with you on the overindulging. All done!

  4. Yep, the cookies are over for me, too, Patrick. Just getting over the flu for another day or two and I'll be back with the exercising. We've got to step it up a bit in 2011, now that we've learned what works.

  5. That sounds like an ideal Christmas - having a day to yourselves.

And who wouldn't love a farting hippo? LOL

  6. But, are they sure it was the HIPPO?

Getting some fresh air exercise may be just the ticket, Patrick.

If you can't blame the dog, a hippo may be just as good. Enjoy the movement today (walking/running, that is), and I proud of you for getting right back on track. It sounds like you had an enjoyable holiday! A new year is just around the corner now ... onward and downward!

  8. So glad you had a great Christmas, Patrick. Ours was good too. I got some lovely gifts and after the kids left, Dail and I had some quiet time too. I'm still struggling a bit but overall, I made it through the holiday okay.

  9. I'm so jealous you have Abby's hippo!!! My cousin may be getting that for her birthday.

Today I'm walking the dog I'm watching, and probably some weights and elliptical or bike later.

  10. We used to have the same Christmas schedule with our kids. Christmas eve the kids were with us and Christmas day with their dad. The hubs and i always enjoyed Christmas day together.
Now the kids are grown and they usually have Christmas day with us if they're in town :)
Love the determined look on your face!

  11. Glad to hear you had a nice Christmas holiday Patrick. The hippo sounds cute (yet probably a bit annoying after you've heard it 100 times lol). As for getting in some exercise I plan on doing a DVD today so I don't have to go out to the gym.

  12. Your words -- "I took in too much temptation on Christmas Eve & Day to be honest. Nothing as bad as in years past, but still too much." -- I echoed this same sentiment recently.

And the miraculous part is the ability to get right back on track... unlike in years past.

    Happy New Year!

  13. The hippo that farts sounds fabulous! Love hippos.

We hit 29 degrees to day. I already did 3 miles and will log another 2 early this evening. Love this warm spell we are having. Who says you must be indoors in the winter for exercise????
