Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 357 - I Am The Worst On The Planet?

Yesterday I went to the physical therapist for my knee/hip pain. First time ever with a physical therapist if I remember correctly. So I went with an open mind, a bit skeptical to be honest as to just what I'd get out of it. After two hours I left beaten down and if I am not mistaken, violated!

After an initial evaluation, she told me I have the worst flexibility on the planet. Yes, she said "worst" and she said "planet". Ok, I know I don't really know my head from my butt when it comes to proper stretching, but, I am the worst on the planet?

That means the likes of Jack Black, Drew Carey, and Larry the Cable Guy have better flexibility than me? Oh I refuse to believe that.

She then put me through a battery of stretching exercises to work on the iliotibial band which is the source of my pain, and my over all flexibility which is the source of my planetary status. I held my own just fine, worst on the planet my butt.

Now, speaking of butt, when the stretching was done it was time for a heated ultrasound massage. Ok, sure, why not. The target area was my hip. But she had me drop my sweat pants far enough I was a good 75% bare-butt.

Between the warming gel and the vibration of whatever she was working me over with, I soon forgot what I was there for. And then when that was done, she tells me were about to get a little rough. Usually I have to spend money on a good meal and a bad movie to get that kind of action.

In the end I walked out of there worn out in more ways than one. I'll be going back to see her a couple of times for the next three weeks for more 'therapy'.

Yesterdays puzzle, Tish again was first to join in with the correct answer. She is the puzzle-master!

Have a great weekend!

Responsibility 199 - Gotta Do It!!

  1. I bet I could give you an unflexible run for the money! Wish my PT last year included massaging. All I got at the end was ice!

  2. I loved PT when I was still in it. I still use some of the stretching and core strengthening exercises I learned there. It will get harder as time goes by though. :)

  3. Know how you feel my IT band has been a problem for me since school and even now I have problems but now I know how to sort it, just stick with it as it will help loads.

  4. You sure if was a therapists office you were at? lol

Tip, if she gives you a safe word, you're in the wrong place...maybe.

  5. Love this post Patrick cause it does show how important stretching & flexibility is to our overall health & that IT band is a big issue for many. Tightness there & other places lead to not only knee issues but back, neck & more.... and Patrick, the older you get, OMG! I was a flexibility queen in my younger years & come the 40's & amazing how tight we can get even with me stretching already! :-)

I still can do the splits but it takes me 20 minutes to get there!;-)

I know you have lots of your mind but stretching is really important as you continue with your workouts.

  6. HA HA! Though I was recently told by a podiatrist that such statements are poor bedside manner.

  7. I was a rehab aide and let me tell you, I am betting you are not the least flexible person there and really she's not allowed to even say that. Being flexible is hard, even Jillian says so and she's not as flexible as she'd like to be. Just enjoy the good parts and endure the bad and hopefully it'll all help. Hope all the tests are done and you can start what's next to get you healthy and stay that way.
Take care Patrick and have a blessed weekend.

  8. I had PT on my knee when I feel and I felt like I had worked our for 2 hours when they got through with me. Did wonders for my knee though. Good luck with your PT and have a great Sunday.

  9. Hope the knee/hip get better quickly, Be a good patient ;)

  10. Funny Post. Must stretch!!! It will keep the injuries away.

  11. She has not met my husband. I seriously think you'd be demoted to 2nd place. ; )

I have considered sending him for this special hour long super flexibility session (it probably hurts like hell) where the practitioner actually works to pull and push you into greater flexibility. Saw it in the paper a year or so ago and keep thinking, Yeah, HE NEEDS THIS! hahahah I just need to find the article. No luck googling, as I forgot the name.

    Happy stretching...
