Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 12 - Before & After

Talking about Pictures, Before & After Pictures.

Up there at the top you'll see a new link for PROGRESS IN PICTURES. It is just that, where I'll display my pictures of my progress. The ever popular, but not so pleasant, Before Picture of me is up there now. Go ahead, take a look...

My son took these of me on Wednesday evening this week; yesterday. He got a chuckle out of doing so as I was trying to have as much fun with it as I could with the comedic expressions & gestures. It was fun taking them. However when I took these two pics and put them side by side on a single image, really not so fun looking at them. They say black is slimming but black seems to have failed me in these.

Oh well, this is the reality of who I am. It is not who I want to be anymore. If looking at them from time to time helps me become who I want to be, then so be it I'll look at them. When I get to the point of posting pictures that show progress against these, well lets hope they are not just easier to want to look at but also do even more to help encourage me to accomplish this mission.

What about you, do you find before, progress and after pictures motivating?

Yesterday I did the walk around Lake Andrea, about 2.25 miles, in 46 minutes 40 seconds. Whether that is a good pace, average, or laugh out loud slow; I don't know. But the next time I make that walk I expect to complete in less than that 46:40 of yesterday.

Very busy day today so while I'll try and get something in after work, I am not promising exercise. I am promising healthy eating though.

Make this day work for you!

  1. I regret I didn't take more before and during pictures. I guess I didn't think I would make it so I think it's great you are starting off believing you can do this (BECAUSE YOU CAN). That's a pretty good time I think for 2.25 miles, way to go.

  2. I think pictures can be very powerful motivators. I also think you should consider some general body measurements, e.g. waist, hips, thighs, biceps, neck, chest, etc. These can also be very handy measures of progress especially when the scale isn't showing the whole story. And don't forget other medical indicators like blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.

  3. Woot - just read through your posts, glad I got here at the beginning, I think I know a stayer when I see one. Be glad to walk with you. As for the pictures - haven't yet had the courage to post mine - my before are so bad that even I cant bare to look at them - why should I inflict them on someone else lol. I will wait till I have a good 20% gone - maybe 30? 40? lol...and then I might post some..meanwhile I remain looking like a trio of blueraspberries :)

  4. Dawn, for pics I didn't want to take any pics at first myself. Your thoughts on regretting not taking more are sort of what was on my mind when pondering it & led me to do so. I figured when I do succeed at this, I may not have good pics of me when I was at my worst. Although I couldn't imagine why I'd want to look back at them very often. Yet I knew if nothing else it might be cool to have them and see the old me, so I didn't want to regret not having any before pics someday so I took some even though I really wasn't thrilled to take them and then look at them.

Kyle, haven't thought much recently about the measuring of the body areas, although I have done so on previous attempts when following a certain plan. However I have seen on several blogs than many people do so. This is not that hard to do so I think I can put this on the to do list this weekend. As for the medical indicators I am usually good about those. I take an annual physical every July and have the works done on those tests and they've always come out looking OK. I've been told they won't stay OK as my 40's become my 50s if I don’t make changes. So, what I need to do is dig out last year's numbers and compare and then keep comparing as one would hope as I succeed at this they'll get even better over time.

Blue, Hi, nice to see you here and thanks for the kind words. "Stayer", I like that term and yes, I definitely plan to be a "Stayer". I understand your thinking about why would someone inflict pics of themselves which they don't like on others. I share the same thought, but I did it anyway. Different things motivate different people and if pics won't do it for someone then I don't think there is a reason why they should feel they have to. Just like eating, we're taught that even in healthy eating if you don't like a certain food don't think you have to eat it because other healthy people do. I'm definitely going with that as a brussel sprout will never hit my taste buds no matter how dang healthy it may be for me.

    Thanks for the support folks!
