Responsibility 199, what is it?

Responsibility 199 is a belief; I believe that to be healthy and to increase my longevity I need to weigh 199 pounds or less...
Responsibility 199 is a need; I need to reduce my weight, reduce my percentage of body fat, and the elevated threat of disease my present condition presents...
Responsibility 199 is a mission; I recognize that achieving 199 will be a challenge, perhaps the hardest I have ever undertaken...
Responsibility 199 is a commitment; I acknowledge that I must commit to action, commit to change, commit to myself and those I love to achieve this mission, to increase my longevity...
Responsibility 199 is ME.

Day 305 - Memories Are So Odd

source
Today is day 305 of my mission. Yesterday 304, tomorrow Lord willing will be 306. Now that I have the math out of the way allow me to entertain myself, and you, with why the number 305 is bouncing around my head like my niece bounced around my family room this past weekend.

How often does 305 pop up? OH it does at times when channel-surfing the TV, or when the amount to be paid is $3.05, or when a crash in the race I'm watching occurs on lap 305; the number really does pop up more often that one would expect. Whenever I see the number 305, my mind instantly reminds me that my 3rd grade classroom number was 305. I cannot tell you what my 2nd grade, or fourth grade classroom numbers were, or any other grades room number.

What happened in room 305 that burned that number into my memory so?

Dumplings. Anytime I see Chicken & Dumplings on a menu, on a buffet, or served at a dinner party; where ever it may be I almost always pass up on it. I know there is no way, NONE, they could be better than the dumplings my Great Grandma Bella used to make. When I hear the word dumpling, I think immediately of her. I'm sure she'd appreciate knowing that is how I remember her best.

We're her dumplings really that amazing that passing all other dumpling opportunities is justified?

Pencils, you may recall for Hanukkah I shared this story of my encounter with Sheldon Reese with you. To this day when I see a freshly sharpened pencil, or hear a pencil sharpener doing its thing; I instantly am reminded of Sheldon and look upon anyone armed with a pencil with a cautionary glare.

I have other memory triggers which I find odd. But those are enough to give you sense of how my mind looks backwards as well as forwards. We do need to leverage our past experiences, our memories, to help us forge better results ahead. But for the life of me I cannot figure out how 305, Dumplings & Sheldon popping in my head as they do does much for forging anything more than a smile and occasional chuckle.

Got Odd Memories?

Day 130 - Wasabi to Favorites

Morning, morning, morning... Good Morning!

How was everyones Tuesday? Awesome I hope. A good one for me. A relaxed one for the most part if you discount work. Exercise was a simple 1+ mile walk/stroll with my wife. She's been trying to get out and walk a little bit further each day as part of her recovery. Her recovery from surgery has been just fine with the only real set back being a rough summer-cold she has been battling.

Yesterday I discovered a new snack, Wasabi peas. Nope, I have never had them before. Never! Until yesterday. Took a look at the nutrition panel and was pleasantly surprised and the numbers. I've been relying on allot of fruit for my snacks and has searching for another veggie alternative; found it! Have you tried Wasabi peas before?

Favorites, kids ask us questions all the time; they are kids so they are supposed to. Over time they ask many questions on 'what is your favorite _________?'

Here are some I have fielded over the years; My favorite...
Actor: John Wayne, no debate needed, next question...
Actress: Whoever the leading actress is alongside John Wayne in the movie being watched right now
Candy: Snickers with Whoppers a close second, Almond Joy a solid third
Car: From a practical perspective, I am a Ford man & I am an SUV man; Ford Expedition is what I drive. From a wish upon a star perspective, Porsche 911 Carrera 4S; someday, when I can fit into one!
Color: Orange is by far my fave. The color I cannot get comfortable with is Green. Perhaps stems from my hatred for the Green Bay Packers, or the one time Minnesota North Stars who are now in Dallas
Comic strip: Dilbert, I can relate in so many ways
Dog: Toy German Shepard (about 1/2 size of the normal breed), that is what we had as a kid. If I ever have another dog it just has to have a cool bark, size won't matter; just yappy whinny barking.
Island: Huh? How should I know. Simply whichever island is there to rescue me when the plan or ship goes down, that will be my favorite forever & ever
Johnny Depp Movie: My daughter's inquiry, to her surprise it was not Jack Sparrow. Rather I choose Don Juan in his earlier film titled "Don Juan DeMarco", Maybe Marlon Brando brought out the best in Johnny
Melon: Odd question from a kid; but mine is Watermelon. I am not big on Honeydew and really dislike Cantaloupe even though it is orange, go figure
Pie: My Grandma Bella's Chess Pie (a very sugary / buttery custard style pie), RIP Grandma
Season: Fall, I am a hunter and fall is when I get to hunt. It is also the time of year when I stop sweating so much
Sport: NASCAR first and foremost. Hockey second through fourth. Then Football, Baseball and Basketball. Is Beer Pong considered a sport?
Subject in school: If allowed I answer Lunch. But if not allowed I answer History, I am a History-Buff, any history class gets my full attention

Any of those come off as odd to you?
How about you, what are your favorites for the above (or favorite whatever)...
